Almost 75,000 Burundian refugees have returned home this year. Returning is one thing, finding a home after years of exile is another. In this small and densely populated country, land is scarce and property disputes threaten the fragile post-war peace. UNHCR is lending a hand by mediating land conflicts and helping the most vulnerable to build homes.

United Nations, New York, 14 May 2010 - Eight of Africa's best known musical talents are lending their voices in support of a UN campaign in South Africa to encourage commitment to the achievement of the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

One for each MDG, the artists came from across the continent to record 8 goals for Africa last April in Cape Town.

The song and music video are part of the awareness campaign developed by the UN System in South Africa, including the UN Information Centre in Pretoria, to advocate for the attainment of the MDGs and to remind leaders to remain focused on them.

With the eyes of the world trained on the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa starting in June, it's an opportunity to renew commitment to the MDGs.

The campaign is expected to bring together UN agencies, civil society, the Government of South Africa, development partners, the private sector and the people of South Africa, Africa and the world.

The song was produced by world-renowned music producer, Arthur Baker, with music composed by Jimmy Dludlu (South Africa), and by Eric Wainaina (Kenya).

The participating artists are: Yvonne Chaka Chaka (South Africa), Angelique Kidjo (Benin), Oliver Mutukudzi (Zimbabwe), Mingas (Mozambique), Eric Wainaina (Kenya), HHP (South Africa), Baba Maal (Senegal), and the Soweto Gospel Choir (South Africa). Hugh Masekela (South Africa) and Jimmy Dludlu (South Africa) are two of the instrumentalists.

The song and music video are available free of charge at the 8 Goals for Africa website.
