Description

The Possible Futures Film Contest is a bold new film event challenging storytellers of the world to create a new vision for the future of humanity — one that will become defined by our relationships to human justice, environmental sustainability, peace and individual fulfillment.

These stories on film, from citizens of the world, have the potential to highlight and envision change that benefits people, the planet and its ecosystems. We strive, in open-hearted consideration of one another, to bring forth a new path for the world — one of harmony, peace and love.

Creating your story is simple, and there is no entry fee. Everyone is encouraged to participate, at any skill level. Five world-class judges will select the top two Awards as viewers select five People’s Choice Awards.

Jude Chehab is the director of "I'm Here", a 4 minute film based on how the society limits 'Hijabis' freedom of speech. Muslim women are tied down by society's accepted but non-Islamic gender roles; customs pre-determine what is to be expected of them, what the hijab entails and where women stand in the ranking system. This is what {Jude} had to say, "I made I'm Here because it is hard for most veiled muslim women to find jobs around the world. Employers and companies or general people are always judging them for the scarf on their heads - the way they are dressed." "I'm Here" defies these boundaries. It's uneasy and uncomfortable to watch, but as the Muslim women break themselves free, they speak proudly of their professions without uttering a word.

This charming and beautiful film by Nitin Das is the winner of the 2011 Possible Futures Film Award.
This film was shot in the remote ice desert region of the Himalayas. The entire cast and production team were from a small village called Kaaza in Spiti Valley, India.

"Films are a very powerful medium to transform minds. But many films focus only on the problems. What we need is films that promote solutions. Stories that inspire people to think and act in different ways. Stories that create awareness not just about the present but also about the future that's possible."
Nitin Das
